Islam and Marriage

In Islam, marriage is a highly encouraged act, with an emphasis on finding a righteous spouse with the correct intention. The ayah below mentions this;

“And marry the unmarried among you and the righteous among your male slaves and female slaves. If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty, and Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.” [24:32]

Additionally, the Quran described marriage to be a union woven with mercy, compassion, and affection through a relationship built on mutual commitment, respect for each other, and having sincerity in intentions and efforts. A beautiful example of this is how after the first revelation of the Quran, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was overwhelmed and sought the presence of his wife, Khadija (ra) who provided him with solace and strength.

“And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for people who give thought.” [30:21]

Matrimonial services

Various matrimonial services aim at finding Muslims worldwide a suitable partner. Through the means of the internet, individuals are able to connect worldwide and benefit from a multitude of options in order to find the most suitable match. Additionally, unlike modern dating apps, many matrimonial services are catered to an audience of Muslims and so the process is often in accordance with Islamic principles and values. Such services are commonly used and have high success rates due to the fact that they cater to every last preference.

Benefits

At another place he (ﷺ) said, “There is no foundation that has been built in Islam more loved by Allah, than marriage”. He further explained the importance of marriage by saying, “One who marries, has already guarded half of his religion, therefore he should fear Allah for the other half”.

Not only will one be fulfilling a sunnah, but marriage guarantees physical and spiritual chastity of a person and keeps the couple away from the trap of Satan. Marriage also provided a bond for two people to connect on the basis of mutual affection, mercy, and love in a way that no other bond can provide for. Additionally, by raising children together and inculcating Islamic values and teachings in them, such a bond can prove to be a continuous Sadaqa-e-Jariya.
